My name is Mehak, I am 27 years old and I am a software engineer by profession. I was born and brought up in Lahore. Throughout my life I gave importance to education as well as extra-curricular activities. I have always been on the top of my education and always fascinated by technology. I remember pleading for computer when I was in grade 4th. Finally, my wishes came true when I got my first computer as a gift on my birthday when I was in 5th grade. Just then that I decided to learn and pursue a career in computers. So, I was sorted from the start. I worked hard and passed my matriculation with good grades and then took pre-engineering discipline. I began my studies in the field of computer science from a private university in my hometown. Just when I was about to graduate, I was awarded with a UGRAD scholarship to spend a semester in USA. That was the turning point of my life. I explored more into the filed of computer science abroad. Got in touch
with some of the best teachers at the university. After coming back and graduating I started working and got trained in Microsoft technologies (Dynamics CRM, BI etc.). It is then I decided to pursue further studies and opted for Masters program in Data Science, which fascinated me a lot. I was very much in love with the emerging field and keen to work in it in future. Also, my current job role aligns with my field of studies. So that is a plus. Although there are many obstacles faced my women in this field. I found that women are underpaid even in STEM, they are not given a lot of chances to work in this field. But fortunately, I did not
face anything like this in my journey so far. I wish to continue my services in the field of computer science and would urge all the young girls to actively explore STEM fields before opting any track for their future. These are not only highly paid fields (if you excel in them) but also very interesting and rapidly evolving.
