Choosing a referee is something I didn’t pay much attention to in my first round of applications and that was a huge mistake. Reference letters are super important and hold a lot of weight with the admissions committees. As an international student, it’s crucial to find out what the programs are looking for when it comes to these letters.

What better way to end this accounts hiatus than announcing that I am officially starting my PhD (visa permitting 😂) this fall at THE largest medical centre in the world 🥺🎉

For those who have been following me for a while know that by this time last year I had received no interviews and 6/6 PhD rejections. This year I am going to be starting my PhD in Biomedical Science at UTHealth Houston MDAnderson (it’s a mouthful…) so to say I am happy, relieved and extremely grateful is an understatement.

Applying for and interviewing for PhD programs in the US as an international student was an incredibly draining and stressful process. I’m going to be spending the next few months compiling a super comprehensive guide on my experience to help anyone who is thinking of applying for next fall.
