About.
Hi guys! My name is Mirrah Bashir and I am currently a PhD student at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Here, I research prostate cancer and the molecular mechanisms driving tumor progression.
My academic journey has taken me across multiple institutions and disciplines. I completed my BSc at King’s College London in Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology, followed by a post-baccalaureate at Northwestern University in Chicago, where I contributed to two publications and presented my work at the Society for Neuroscience. I then earned my MSc in Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology at Imperial College London and worked in the medical communications industry before diving into my PhD program.
I started this blog in 2020 with the goal of making science more accessible, inspiring future scientists, and sharing my experiences as a woman of color in STEM. I love talking about science in a way that’s clear, engaging, and relevant—whether it’s breaking down complex concepts, offering insights into academic life, or highlighting the highs and lows of research.
Whether you’re here for science, career advice, or just a behind-the-scenes look at life as a researcher, I hope you find something useful (or at least interesting!) here.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
